To The Wing Chun lineage of the Ip Man family and all concerned parties,

The association hereby issues a solemn condemnation of all remarks that insult Master Ip Chun.

Master Ip Chun studied Wing Chun under his father, Grandmaster Ip Man, at the age of seven. Now over a century old, he has devoted his entire life to the promotion of Wing Chun martial arts and its cultural heritage. His disciples are spread across Chinese Mainland, Hong Kong, and over the world, faithfully preserving its authentic principles and uplifting its noble traditions. His accomplishments are remarkable and widely recognised. Master Ip Chun has been awarded an Honorary Fellowship by Lingnan University and granted honorary citizenship of Foshan. His contribution and influence within the martial arts community are beyond dispute.

At the recent opening of the National Games, Master Ip Chun’s son and his direct disciples represented the Wing Chun, demonstrating its forms and wooden-dummy techniques.

However, on 4 November, Mr Ma Hang Lum Andrew publicly declared on social media that “what Ip Chun teaches is not Wing Chun.” Such statements constitute open defamation and deliberate provocation against fellow practitioners of Wing Chun, as well as a challenge to official recognition at the national level. Such conduct is reprehensible.

The Association hereby demands that Mr Ma Hang Lum Andrew immediately retract this improper statement and issue a public apology to Master Ip Chun. Failing this, we shall be compelled to pursue appropriate legal action.
